The national card game, taught to me by my competitive mother who did not go easy on me, is the ultimate essence of play. In the game, the Joker, 8, 9, and 10 are taken out of the deck and counted as points of 10. The premise and goal of the game is to achieve forty (cuarenta) points by making sets, grabbing them off the table, and getting points. Dedicated to the Women that raised me, I felt this to be a whimsical route commemorating them and my culture. The card game is a metaphor for endurance and survival. The female dog printed on the cards are drawings of my own dog, Kaiyote, who I have nurtured since pup.
